Each part of FIFA's study materials begins with definitions. They guide interpretation of the rest of the text, and some exam questions test them directly.
Agent terminology
- Football agent — an individual holding a FIFA licence, not a company.
- Client — a player, coach, club or member association.
- Representation agreement — a written contract between agent and client, signed before services are provided.
- Connected agent — agents within the same agency or linked by family relationships, treated together for fee-cap purposes.
- Service fee — the agent's remuneration, subject to the rules applicable to the client represented.
Questions beginning “Can an agent…” often depend on precise definitions.
Transfer terminology
- Engaging entity / releasing entity — the club signing or releasing a player. Fee rules depend on which party is represented.
- Release clause — a pre-agreed amount enabling termination of a contract.
- Training compensation — training costs used to reward clubs that developed the player.
- Solidarity mechanism — a percentage of transfer compensation allocated to training clubs.
- Electronic player passport — the player's registration history, club by club.
Prohibitions
- Inducement — offering money or advantages to improperly influence a transfer.
- Bridge transfer — using an intermediary club to circumvent rules or tax obligations.
- Competition manipulation — a serious offence carrying a duty to report.
Exam terminology
- Mock exam — platform practice under exam conditions, also used as a technical test.
- Exam window — the days during which an exam session takes place.
- Time slot — the appointment booked by the candidate within the exam window.
The Module 2 of the course reviews each set of regulations and its opening definitions.
